Sensitivity Analysis

I designed a wind turbine blade and tower with an engineering team. We decided to implement three blades around this hub with the NACA 4424 airfoil and an angle of attack of 10 degrees. This airfoil decision was to increase structural strength for a smaller-scale wind turbine more vulnerable to vigorous winds.

Our tower design consisted of engineered wood binded with fasteners and epoxy (machine tools were also used for part preparation). Our design methodology was to prevent significant deformation during the stiffness test. I tested the design in Ansys with a mesh convergence study to predict our stiffness result within ~5.4%. Testing results came out with a stiffness of 15 N per mm, winning 1st place in the stiffness category.
